Athletes …Don’t Overlook This Fundamental Piece of Nutrition

Shares

I have been dramatically changing lives, for the better, with one simple piece of Nutritional advice ...

Quality FIRST...

For any Athlete attempting to get their nutrition dialed in, please don't approach me with the following questions or concerns.

  • How many calories should I be consuming to drop the extra bodyfat I've been accumulating over the years?
  • How much protein do I need to be consuming to gain 10# of lean muscle mass?
  • What type of intermittent fasting protocol should I be following?

Instead, let's start the conversation with WHAT you've been eating.

This should rattle the cages of some Athletes.

I can tell you with 100% certainty, that the things you are putting IN YOUR FACE is the number one problem for 90% of the Athletes on this planet.

The conversations of timing, quantity, and nutrient distribution are important... but on a far removed, distant pedestal than Quality.

Capisce?

Okay, now that we got that out of the way...

Start here...

Take a log of all the foods you eat in a day.

NOT the quantity! Just the type ...

For example...

Daily Food Log

Eggs

Bacon

Fruit Loops

Milk

Bran Muffin

Protein Bar

Lettuce

Salmon

Brownie

Noodles

Spaghetti Sauce

Brocolli

Soda

Popcorn

Total Foods (TF) = 14

So ...In the example above, there are 14 Total foods...

Next, determine how many of the 14 are real food choices?

By definition, we consider real foods to fall into one of these categories...

Meat, Veggie, Nut, Seed, Fruit

Daily Food Log

Eggs

Bacon

Fruit Loops

Milk

Bran Muffin

Protein Bar

Lettuce

Salmon

Brownie

Noodles

Spaghetti Sauce

Brocolli

Soda

Popcorn

Total Foods (TF) = 14
Total Real Foods(TRF) = 5

Now, take the number of real food items (5) and divide it by the total number of foods consumed (14) to get a percentage

5 / 14 = .36 OR 36%

This is your quality measurement (QM).

This is the percentage of your diet that consists of real food.

Daily Food Log

Eggs

Bacon

Fruit Loops

Milk

Bran Muffin

Protein Bar

Lettuce

Salmon

Brownie

Noodles

Spaghetti Sauce

Brocolli

Soda

Popcorn

Total Foods (TF) = 14
Total Real Foods(TRF) = 5
Quality Measurement(QM) = 36%

If you want to dramatically improve the way you look, feel, and perform, you should be shooting for ...

80%+

Magic happens at 80%+

I have found, that on average, the majority of Athletes that have calculated their QM are running at about 50%.

This gets me excited as a Coach because I know there is soo much room for improvement when an Athlete comes at me with a 50%.

What is your QM?

Please share your numbers in the comments.

  • Rohit Bali says:

I’m probably close to 80% but still not doing something right.

  • Russell says:

Great example, never seen this type of calculation before, well done!
